On July 23, 1994, Sharon and John Trusty were living full-to-overflowing lives. They were building an addition to their home; their youngest daughter was getting married in two weeks; they were to leave for Japan two days after the wedding; and John and his partner were restructuring their business.

But that July day did not end as typically as it began. That afternoon John was dead as the result of a heart attack, and Sharon found herself a widow at age 48.

John's death threw Sharon into a downward spiral, emotionally and financially. She and John had not neglected financial planning; but their plan assumed that both of them would retire before either died. She knew how much they had borrowed for the home addition, but not how much they had spent. Their assets were tied up in various ventures for which John had left no paper trail.

Widowed is the account of Sharon's transition from homemaker to widow to businesswoman. When she was referred to management pioneer Barry Corkern, she found a decision partner – someone who understood the complex matrix of emotional and financial issues.

Widowed is narrated alternately by Barry and Sharon, providing personal experiences and professional expertise.  Emotional coaching and down-to-earth financial wisdom make it a must read for those who are widowed.
